RD Cycling - Cape Epic 2012 stage 4
Telkom Business Masters Three-peat
For the third consecutive day, the Telkom Business Masters Category was won by Robert Sim and Nico Pfitzenmaier of the Robert Daniel Momsen team in 5:22.16,7 (overall time 22:20.19,2), followed by the World Bicycle Relief team of Bart Brentjens and Jan Weevers in 5:31.24,5 (overall time 23:14.33,7). In third place was the Jag Craft team of Adrian Enthoven and Delaney Impey in 5:44.31,9 (overall 23:06.18,1).

Nico Pfitzenmaier of Team Robert Daniel Momsen
Sim and Pfitzenmaier lead the Jag Craft team of Adrian Enthoven and Delaney Impey by 45 minutes and 59 seconds. World Bicycle Relief team Bart Brentjens and Jan Weevers are in third place overall.
Says Nico Pfitzenmaier of Robert Daniel Momsen: “Today was a tough stage. The pace was high at the start and the lactic acid built up in our legs in the first 10 km. The landscape was beautiful. Later this morning, the wind was howling and you had to fight against it. That was a bit hectic. Rob also sliced his tyre and we needed to replace his tube, but we managed to consolidate our lead, which is good.” Adds Rob Sim: “A stick speared my tyre and the hole was too big just to plug. I was worried that we used most of our equipment, but these things happen. Fortunately we came home safely.’
Says Bart Brentjens of World Bicycle Relief: “It’s very different riding in the Masters category. The elite teams are much stronger. If you compare it, we’re slow. I actually think I prefer riding in the Men’s. I always enjoy the Absa Cape Epic. It’s very well organized – that’s one of the reasons I come back every year. Also, South Africa is a lovely country, the terrain is nice, and the best riders in the world compete. But you have to compete as a team.” Adds Jan Weevers: “I’ve participated in many races in Europe – some of the toughest one’s we have – but nothing compares to this. It’s a little bit heavy for me.

Robert Daniel Momsen Win Masters
The Telkom Business Masters Category was won by Robert Sim and Nico Pfitzenmaier of the Robert Daniel Momsen team in 4:30.52,6 (overall time 10:56.46,4), followed by the Jag Craft team of Adrian Enthoven and Delaney Impey in 4:38.06,6 (11:05.31,2). In third place were the World Bicycle Relief team of Bart Brentjens and Jan Weevers in 4:38.34,1 (overall time 11:34.26,3).

Telkom Business Masters Winners, Team Robert Daniel Momsen
Sim and Pfitzenmaier lead the Jag Craft team of Adrian Enthoven and Delaney Impey by 8 minutes and 44 seconds. World Bicycle Relief team Bart Brentjens and Jan Weevers are in third place overall (11:34.26,3).
Says Nico Pfitzenmaier of Robert Daniel Momsen: “Today was way better than yesterday. We actually had an amazing and consistent ride. Bart Brentjens and his team mate attacked and tried to play tactics, but we decided to just stay cool. Rob and I cycled really well together and from the second water point the route suited us. We’re both technical riders and could then create a nice gap. There was a double sting in the tail near the end, but we survived. We recovered well after yesterday and felt really good today.” Adds team mate Robert Sim: “I was feeling much better than yesterday. Our plan for tomorrow is to conserve our lead and not blow out in the beginning. We’ll also track the opposition to ensure we’re in good shape for the second half of the race.”

TOPLESS! Lucky we are easy going sponsors! Congrats to the team for finishing 2nd overall in the Masters category.
Robert Daniel team wins Master’s category – Stage 5
Robert Sim and Doug Brown of the Robert Daniel team won stage 5 of this year’s Absa Cape Epic in 5:40.41,7 (overall 23:50.48,8), followed by the Juwi team (Carsten Bresser and Udo Boelts) in 5:40.43,2 (overall 23:04.31,4). In third place were the Nandos team of Adrian Enthoven and Gerrie Beukes in a time of 5:53.00,1 (overall 24:27.53,2). Sim and Brown are still in second place overall in this category and the Juwi team lead by 46 minutes and 18 seconds.

Robert Sim and Doug Brown wins Stage 5 of this year’s race
Says Doug Brown of the Robert Daniel team: “It was a privilege riding with Carsten and Udo today. They were taking it a bit easy. I didn’t participate last year and the Cape Epic is definitely getting faster and the depth of field is much better. When you climb a hill, there are always ten guys with you so it’s hard to get away. As an amateur rider it’s incredible to race side by side with Udo who finished 9th in the Tour de France. I watched these guys on television. It really does give you extra energy.” About his partner Robert Sim, Brown adds: “Robert is a very talented athlete. He’s only been riding for a short period so obviously has the right genetics. He’s going to be a name to watch in the Masters.” Robert Sim adds: “It’s a privilege to ride with Doug. He has a cupboard full of blue jerseys. We rode with the Juwi team for 80km and we’re lucky they weren’t competing hard for the win today. What an unbelievable privilege! I started riding three and a half years ago and to be riding with people of this calibre at the age of 45, is truly amazing.”

2010 UCT Ultimate team
Watch 20 minutes of a game of Ultimate and you understand why Jon Luies of UCT's nine-month-old Ultimate Club cautions that players have to be agile and - no understatement - super fit.
Some basic background first. Ultimate is a fast-paced, little-contact sport played by two opposing teams of seven players a side using a 175 gram flying disc. (The disc is why the sport is sometimes called Ultimate Frisbee, which it shouldn't because the disc used in the game is not of the trademarked ilk produced by toymaker Wham-O, but a slightly different version - with a softer curved edge - made by archrivals Discraft.)
